What is folk art? Folk artists have no formal training, they are self-taught and create things that are colorful, simplistic, and oftentimes have a purpose. Basket weaving, quiltting, toys, furniture, paintings, and wood carving are a few examples. We are passionate about keeping the resilient spirit of this art and community alive as well as growing awareness and appreciation for its originality and history, today and for generations to come.

Minnie Adkins Day
Minnie Adkins is a nationally known wood carver and painter from eastern Kentucky. She helped form the Kentucky Folk Art Center in Morehead which continues to preserve the legacy and rich traditions of Kentucky folk art.
